All students at Melior Community College engage in regular personalised tutorials. These take place with their form teacher on an agreed day each fortnight.

The PLP tutorials have been introduced for a number of reasons:

  • To personalise the learning experience for each student and enable them to have regular and meaningful discussions with their form teacher.
  • To enable students to take more interest in, and more responsibility for, their own learning.
  • To develop positive relationships with staff which are collaborative, show mutual respect and are grounded in self-esteem.
  • To increase students’ capacity to talk about work and learning, and the strategies required to make it even more successful
  • To set regular, subject based targets that will address any underachievement, challenge students academically, and seek to ensure that each student is able to realise their potential.

The discussions will focus around the progress that is being made in each subject, where the student is experiencing problems with their learning and how these problems can be overcome. At Key Stage 4, discussions will also focus on whether students are up to date with all relevant coursework.

It is our belief that you, as parents, have an extremely important role to play in supporting your child’s progress at school.

PLP’s on-line will enable students to access their PLP at anytime – from a classroom, from home, or from anywhere with internet access.

As a result, this also enables you as parents to contribute to your child’s learning by allowing you to access their PLP on a regular basis, discussing targets and progress with them, and communicating with their form teacher via the “Parental comment” box.

If you want to know more about how to access PLP’s on line or how to use them more effectively to support your child’s learning, please contact Mr. Joy at school.
